Honey Poached Pears
INGREDIENTS
2 cups honey
5 cups water
2 tbsp. lemon juice
8 medium pears, ripe, but firm
4 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp. salt
DIRECTIONS
Peel, cut in half and core pears. Place face down in a full-size hotel pan or glass baking dish.
Combine water, honey, lemon juice, cloves, cinnamon stick and salt in a pot and bring to a boil.
Pour mixture over top of pears, cover tightly and place in a 350-degree oven for 40 minutes. Check pears with knife to see if tender; if still firm return to oven for additional time.
Remove from oven and allow to cool at room temperature for 1 hour. Place in an airtight container with liquid and refrigerate until ready for use.
Reduce syrup and use as a drizzle over pears. Serve pears along with ice cream or yogurt.
Slice pears and use as a topping for a dessert or tart.
